Don Sure (Hung Whéll in Chinese) became the Calypso Collapso King as he plunged from 1st place to 22nd in a disastrous second round display that shocked the golfing world. Heading into the 2024 tournament, Sure was one of the players to beat and the TAB favourite to become only the second player to win two Woodpecker titles.
In 2023 he dazzled with his iron play after off scintillating rounds at Ahipara in 2023 when he stormed home for a podium place. In 2024, he opened with another blockbusting banana bonanza round of 87 for 42 stableford points and his place in the history books seemed secured – according to the TAB as a $1.90 short-price favourite.
All it took for him to implode was a mysterious text from Asian woman Sandra as he became a shell of the golfer from the day before and he was already out of the running after the first five holes.
